ILE SAS Welcomed a Delegation from Tanzania’s College of African Wildlife Management

On Tuesday, 22 September, the Institute of Landscape Ecology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (ILE SAS) welcomed a seven-member delegation from Tanzania, led by Prof. Julius W. Nyahongo, Rector of the College of African Wildlife Management (CAWM), Mweka. The visit built on the growing cooperation between the Tanzanian institution and Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, creating opportunities for discussions on future joint research and project activities.

The programme at ILE SAS included presentations on the institute’s activities, research directions and international projects, followed by an expert discussion on potential areas for future cooperation. Members of CAWM Mweka, one of Africa’s leading institutions dedicated to research, education and professional training in wildlife management, nature conservation and sustainable tourism, also presented their work. Established by an Act of the Parliament of Tanzania in 1964, the institution has trained thousands of professionals from dozens of countries over more than six decades.

The visit builds on the existing partnership between the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Informatics of Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra and the College of African Wildlife Management, with the aim of expanding cooperation through joint research projects, the exchange of expertise and the strengthening of international collaboration in biodiversity and landscape conservation.

n important dimension of this emerging partnership is the support for the implementation of the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme. This intergovernmental scientific programme of UNESCO promotes the integration of research, biodiversity conservation and the principles of sustainable development, with a strong emphasis on fostering a harmonious relationship between people and nature. In recent years, CAWM Mweka has also become actively involved in UNESCO international initiatives aimed at strengthening capacities for the protection of Africa’s natural heritage, creating further opportunities for joint scientific activities.
