Regional Workshop: Enhancing Biodiversity Protection in the Eastern Partnership Countries: Learning from EU Best Practices
The Institute of Landscape Ecology SAS co-organized the workshop “Enhancing Biodiversity Protection in the Eastern Partnership Countries: Learning from EU Best Practices”, which took place on 28-30 April 2025 at the Small Congress Centre of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava. The workshop was part of the project “Regional Cooperation for the Protection of Biodiversity and Ecosystems in the Eastern Partnership Countries” and was focused on the transfer of knowledge on the management of protected areas between EU countries and the Eastern Partnership countries: Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
During the first day, lectures by domestic and foreign experts focused on the management and development of the network of protected areas were presented. On the second day, an excursion to protected areas was held. At Devínska Kobyla, the restoration of xerotherm meadows through grazing and nature-friendly forest management were presented. In the afternoon, the project for the restoration of the Devín branch of the Danube and the revitalization of the Rudava river were presented. The third day was focused on a recapitulation of knowledge, discussion and interactive activities.
The workshop was attended by 44 participants from the mentioned Eastern Partnership countries, representatives of the World Bank, which finances the project within the EU4Environment program, the company ELLE (Estonian, Latvian & Lithuanian Environment) responsible for the project, and the Institute of Landscape Ecology SAS, which is ELLE’s partner in the project.
