Výskum a zachovanie biodiverzity v historických štruktúrach poľnohospodárskej krajiny Slovenska
Research and maintaining of biodiversity in historical structures of agricultural landscape of Slovakia
Program: Bilateral - other
Project leader: RNDr. Dobrovodská Marta, PhD.
Annotation: The historical structures of agricultural landscape (HSAL) represent mosaics of small-scale arable fields and permanent agricultural cultivations which were not affected by the process of agricultural collectivization. They have irreplaceable ecological, cultural and historical value. They are a result of a long term, mutual relationship between man and the landscape. As main sources of local biodiversity, they are linked mainly to balks, margins of cross fields tracks, original meadows and pastures and after collectivization abandoned grass-grown former arable fields. These areas are now becoming rare and thus highly valuable in the European space. Since these areas are not at present a subject of special protection, there’s a high risk that in the near future, due to abandonment and subsequent forest succession and urban pressure, their decline or even irreversible loss is probable. Our project aims to resolve this problem by carrying out a thorough inventory and typologization of HSAL on the territory of whole Slovakia, coupled with detailed interdisciplinary research (research of vegetation, animals, ecological conditions and human society) in 3 representative pilot areas (Svätý Jur town, Liptovská Teplička village Hriňová town) and implementation of an proposed Strategy for protection and management of HSAL in these territories as well.

Multikriteriálny prístup stanovenia udržateľného polyfunkčného využívania vysoko zraniteľných oblastí
Multi-criteria approach of sustainable multifunctional use of highly vulnerable area determination
Program: VEGA
Project leader: RNDr. Krnáčová Zdena, PhD.
Annotation: The principles of sustainable soil use are based on respecting the limiting factors, their rational use. Adhering to these principles of farming in highly vulnerable areas, such as WPZ (water protection zone) Žitný ostrov, is especially important. The aim of the project is to determine landscape-ecological potential, assign zones of optimal multifunctional use – protection and revitalisation of land and its elements, sustainable economic use and non-agricultural land use, cultural and social development of the countryside. As farming companies employing conventional methods of farming are the most significant large-scale polluters, we would like to approach the farming subjects in the given area with a questionnaire survey and find out their way of farming, benefits, disadvantages, current legislative restrictions, recommendations, etc. The assessment will be the gauging of the suitability of land use, processing of the results, and their implementation into regional antennas of the National Rural Network of the Slovak Republic, and other strategic documents. One of the aims of the project is to determine the landscape-ecological potential, differentiate the zones of optimal multifunctional use – protection and revitalisation of landscape and its elements, sustainable economic use and non-agricultural land use, cultural and social development of the countryside Another significant aim is to ascertain the current status quo in the form of a questionnaire survey of farming subjects. Its assessment is gauging the suitability of land use, processing of the results, and their implementation into regional antennas of the National Rural Network of the Slovak Republic, and other strategic documents.

Výskum špecifických prvkov biokultúrnej krajiny na Slovensku
Research of specific landscape elements of bio-cultural landscape in Slovakia
Program: VEGA
Project leader: RNDr. Dobrovodská Marta, PhD.
Annotation: In a broader sense, it is possible to perceive landscape as mainly bio-cultural and multi-functional, as it constantlyadapts to the economic, social, cultural and environmental processes in time and space. The result is formation ofbio-cultural systems providing a crucial and effective space for the integration of biological and cultural elements that significantly affect individual bio-cultural systems. The project will focus on development ofmethodology for detailed interdisciplinary and integrated research of biotic and social-cultural elements and theirinterrelationships in valuable bio-cultural systems in Slovakia using indicators of biotic and cultural diversity aswell as research of extent and structure changes of forms of traditional agrarian relief. Special attention will bepaid to identification of change factors (driving forces, global megatrends) of the most valuable bio-culturalsystems and determination of selected benefits, which provide for society.

ECOTOUR - Integrácia poskytovania vybraných služieb ekosystémov pre spoločenský dopyt z hľadiska rozvoja udržateľných foriem cestovného ruchu
Integration of supply of selected ecosystem services for societal demand in terms of developing sustainable forms of tourism
Program: VEGA
Project leader: RNDr. Krnáčová Zdena, PhD.
Annotation: The scientific aim of the project is the development and creation of new methods of evaluation of cultural, selected regulating and supporting services of ecosystems using quantification techniques, such as landscape supplies for demand in terms of development of sustainable forms of tourism. From a methodological point of view, we will use several methods, like the Spreadsheet-Type method (Burkhard et al., 2009, 2014, Mederly et al., 2019, Nuegarten et al., 2018, Maes, 2012b, 2013) as a basis and assess the degree of hemerobia and landscape-ecology importance of landscape cover according to authors Krnáčová, Barančok, Pavličková (2018), where we evaluate the biophysical characteristics of elements. This methodology allows to design a suitable and sensitive type of tourism. The project also includes a comparison of the historical use of the landscape with the current condition and the determination of the degree of changes in landscape diversity and biodiversity (Maes et al., 2015).

Historické a súčasné zmeny krajinnej diverzity a biodiverzity vplyvom pôsobenia prírodných a antropogénnych faktorov
Historical and present changes in the landscape diversity and biodiversity caused by natural and anthropogenic factors
Program: VEGA
Project leader: RNDr. Barančok Peter, CSc.
Annotation: In the natural environment, there are constantly running processes that affect the character of the landscape or intensity of natural environmental factors and form the overall state of the environment. These processes naturally influence and change landscape diversity and biodiversity. Man intervenes into these natural procsses in a significant way and anthropogenic impacts on the landscape and biodiversity nowadays outweigh the impacts resulting from the natural development of the areas. The project focuses on the assessment of landscape and biodiversity changes in selected areas affected by the effects of natural and anthropogenic stress factors in a different time periods. Attention will be paid to the differentiation of landscape diversity and biodiversity changes that were caused by the natural development of the landscape, global factors impact and the influence of man in the country ? since the first settlement, through changes in the way and intensity of the landscape use.

Výskum biokultúrnych hodnôt krajiny
Research of biocultural values of landscape
Program: VEGA
Project leader: RNDr. Dobrovodská Marta, PhD.
Annotation: Recently is increasing interest in research that can define habitats and landscape created by human culture and can determine ways that society uses to shape up its natural environment and is also shaped up by it (UNESCO 2007). Also is increasing demand for ensuring diversity in every dimension of life and its inclusion to political agenda. This requires revision of current strategy of biodiversity protection, which often omits highly rated areas in manused landscape and mostly focuses on protection of natural landscape. New concept of “biocultural diversity”, which points to connection between biological and cultural dimension of landscape, their interactions, connections, common development, threats and correlation with social and economical development of society, allows this change. The goal of the pilot project is to bring new qualitative and quantitative findings during the evaluation of connection between biological and cultural diversity and to define new principles of its protection.

ECOMODELTUR - Hodnotenie kultúrnych ekosystémových služieb krajiny na báze krajinnoekologických výskumov pre ekologické modely rozvoja cestovného ruchu
The evaluation of cultural ecosystem services countries on a basis of landscape research for the ecological model of tourism development
Program: VEGA
Project leader: RNDr. Krnáčová Zdena, PhD.
Annotation: Scientific objective of the project is the creation and application of new quantitative methods for assessing ecosystem services of cultural landscapes. Starting from the evaluation of landscape ecological significance (LES) elements LAND COVER by biodiversity, ecosystems aesthetic value (EAV), cultural-historical significance of cultural heritage (CHAS). The basis is the mapping of the actual state and characteristics of the elements of the current landscape cover (LAND COVER) of the urban environment of Bratislava, which we processed under the legend CORINE Land Cover Technical Quide - Addendum 2000 (Bossard, Feranec, Oťahl, 2000) on 3rd, 4th, and 5th hierarchical level. The representation of the landscape cover classes is processed in vector form, resulting from the synthesis of the thematic and relevant layers contained in the ZB GIS, supplemented by a licensed current installation derived from orthophotomaps from aeronautical imaging. 2015 (EUROSENSE, s.r.o.2015). These were complemented by a terrain research in 2014-2017, 2018. This year we processed 8 cadastres within the model territory of Bratislava. The aim is the proposal of diversified ecological forms and species of tourism (ECOTUR), which take into account the ecosystems benefits and the social value of the original habitats and cultural-historical objects. Part of the ECOTUR models will be the elaboration of measures and regulatives with possibility implementation in strategy documents.

Ekologická optimalizácia využívania zosuvných území vo vybraných častiach flyšového pásma, so zreteľom na ich tradičné obhospodarovanie
Ecological optimization of the utilization of landslide areas in selected parts of the flysch zone in regard to the traditional farming
Program: VEGA
Project leader: RNDr. Barančoková Mária, PhD.
Annotation: The occurrence of landslides in the flysch zone of the Western Carpathians has conditioned the utilization of landscape from the beginning of the settlement. Places that have not been affected by the construction processeswere used according to the needs of the agricultural population. Each intervention had an impact on thedevelopment of coenosis thereby creating specific habitats with high variability. This was so not only because ofnatural specificities of individual localities, but also due to diversity of management habits and skills in dispersed settlements (called "kopanice"). Slope deformations represent geofactor, which significantly affects the quality of the environment. The project aims to develop a methodology of assessment of landslide areas in flysch environment and their use in traditional farming, the application of this methodology in selected areas and suggestions for ecological optimization of utilization.

Green Infrastructure of Slovakia
Program: VEGA
Project leader: RNDr. Moyzeová Milena, PhD.
Annotation: The concept of green infrastructure, the same as the territorial systems of ecological stability, is aimed at the progressive transition from the black-and-white division of the country to the protected and unprotected parts, to an all-area differentiated system preserving ecologically convenient landscape structure with different ways of use. Hence, the aim of the proposed Green Infrastructure and mitigation of the negative effects of its barriers is conservation and support to biodiversity and diversity of Slovakia’s landscape and provision for their beneficial effects on the surrounding ecologically less stable parts of the country, support to variants of multifunctional land use with the aim to protect individual components of the environment, conservation of important landscape

EKOMODEL - Ekologický model rozvoja cestovného ruchu na základe hodnotenia lokalizačných a realizačných predpokladov krajiny s využitím nástrojov GIS a kvantifikačných metód.
The ecological model of tourism development based on assessment of localization and realization assumptions of landscape with use of GIS tolls and quantitation methods
Program: VEGA
Project leader: RNDr. Krnáčová Zdena, PhD.
Annotation: Tourism development is determined by many factors. Localizational assumptions of natural and anthropogenic sphere, i.e. cultural-historical assumptions, are the most significant factors which are an object of this project. Realization factors, which include tourism infrastructure, represent indispensable development factors. Together, they compose spatial functional-chorological landscape units which are usually related to microregion or region. Functional-chorological approach to assessment of tourism assumptions enables more apposite arrangement of territorial model of tourism. Thus, it creates complex view on system of relations between tourism and landscape, and is methodical base for creation of ecological models of tourism development. Ecological approach consists inselection and application of procedures aimed at assessment of assumptions for development but also in proposal of suitable forms and activities of tourism for selected naturally, culturally and historically valuablelandscape segments.

Landscape-ecological potential for development countryside in the Slovakia with regard to tourist traffic.
Program: VEGA
Project leader: Ing. Štefunková Dagmar, PhD.
Annotation: In sense of the European strategy of sustainable development (2001) the development of rural areas means theinterconnection of the principles of economic growth, environmental protection and social inclusion. According tothe Charter of European Regional Planning (1983) rural regions have mainly agricultural and ecostabilizingfunction. The support of the development directs to the development of productive functions with a balancedproportion of non-productive (landscape forming) functions. The aim of this project is to elaborate newtheoretical-methodological procedures of the integrated development of rural areas with the concentration onecotourism in selected representative model areas of Slovakia. So the new methodological procedures ofintegrated development of rural areas will be the basis of creation of simplified ecological models ofdevelopment that will be possible to implement to the development planning documents of the Slovak Republic.
